• Superstar Nora Aunor joined militant groups in a protest march against the Kidapawan violence
• The march started at the Plaza Miranda in Quiapo and ended at Mendiola Street, a street close to Malacañang Palace
• Activist-actress Monique Wilson also joined the protest march
The multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor was seen in the frontline of a march in Manila on Friday, April 8, to protest against the violent Kidapawan dispersal.
The actress joined several groups including Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, Anakpawis, and Kilusang Mayo Uno in the protest march from Plaza Miranda in Quiapo to Mendiola Street, a street close to Malacañang Palace; the President of the Philippines’ official residence which has been the site of many similar protest actions.
In her speech at Mendiola, Aunor, who said she traveled 15 hours from Caramoan in the Bicol Region to be with the protesters, urged government officials to resign if they cannot perform their duties. She then called on everyone to fight for what is right.
“Hustisya para sa lahat ng mga biktima ng Kidapawan. Hustiya para sa mga magsasaka. Bigas hindi bala,” the actress said in her speech.
[Justice for all the victims in Kidapawan. Justice for all the farmers. Rice not bullets]
Her full speech can be viewed in a video taken by the youth group Anakpawis and shared by InterAksyon on its website.
Earlier this week, the actress expressed her sympathy to the victims of the violent dispersal in Kidapawan City that killed three farmers when police opened fire at them. She said she was saddened when she heard about what happened to the farmers and hopes they get justice for what has been done to them.
Aside from Nora Aunor, activist-actress Monique Wilson also joined the protest march from Plaza Miranda to Mendiola.
