The story and photos of a boy selling “house coin banks” at a very young age, went viral after it was posted on Facebook.
“Parang walang tao ang hindi maantig ang puso kapag nakita ang batang ‘to [Perhaps, everyone will be touched when they see this child]. Probably this is not the first time that someone will post about this boy,” Leandro Alverio Santos II said, as quoted by the Mutual Fund Investors Philippines’ Facebook page.
According to Santos, he went out to buy snacks. He said, “While walking along P.Noval, I passed by a child who is carrying two big plastic bags. When I was quite far from him already, I heard him shouts”Alkansya! Alkansya po [Coin bank, coin bank]!” Santos inquired about the product and later on learned that the price of the items range from P70 to P200.
Talking to the child, Santos found out that his name is Edmar. Edmar, an 11-year-old boy who lives in Cavite, goes to Manila with his mother every Saturday and Sunday. They separately sell the coin banks for a quite bigger income. His mother creates the big coin banks while he makes the smaller ones. He said he helps his mother during weekends because there is no classes.
“Humanga ako kay Edmar. Naisip ko na siya ang lehitimong working student…. Si Edmar, 11 lang siya, naglalaro dapat siya tuwing walang pasok. Pero pinili niyang suyurin ang mga kalsada para tulungan ang nanay niya [I admire Edmar. He is a true working student. At the age of 11, he should have been playing during weekends but he chooses to help his mother],” Santos said.
Santos is hoping that they can set an event at the University of Sto. Tomas which can help Edmar and his mother in selling the “house coin banks.”
