- Ombudsman Conchita Morales says she has received a “threat to her person”
- She also alluded to the camp of VP Jejomar Binay for operating a “demolition team” against her
- The Ombudsman is yet to receive a copy of the COA report on overpricing in Makati City
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales says she has received a legitimate “threat to her person” as the Office of the Ombudsman is yet to receive a copy of the latest Commission on Audit (COA) report that named Vice President Jejomar Binay among those liable for the overpriced Makati City Hall Parking Building II during the latter’s last term as mayor.
She also made an apparent allusion to the camp of Binay, who is currently running for president under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), for operating a “demolition team” to discredit her.
“We have not, at this moment, received any report from the COA. It is malicious for anyone to attribute to me, or the Office…having distributed any report. It is doubly malicious to charge that a group was hired to demolish any candidate. In fact it is the candidate’s team that has been trying to demolish me,” she told Rappler in a statement.
Without revealing the nature of the threat and other details such as when and how she received it, Morales says that despite receiving threats, she will not be deterred in “discharging our legal duty.”
“We are not deterred from discharging our legal duty by the canard being peddled… nor the threats that have reached me,” she said.
Ombudsman Morales had already warned of a “demolition team” that aims to cast doubt on the investigations and cases being filed with regard to the anomalous overpricing that occurred in Makati City.
“There is a demolition team. In fact we’re told of a former high-ranking government official na nag-kontrata daw sa isang, quote-unquote, ‘operator’ para sirain ang Ombudsman and the Office of the Ombudsman [who hired an ‘operator’ to destroy the Ombudsman and the office of the Ombudsman],” Morales earlier told GMA News.
Vice President Binay, together with former Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay who was a Councilor during his father’s term, were named liable in the COA special audit for graft and other charges over the overpriced construction of the P2.28 billion Makati City Hall Building 2.
