- He says the ruling Liberal party (LP) should give Robredo a “free hand” in running her own campaign
- He denies allegation that LP will drop Robredo due to poor survey standing
Senator Serge Osmeña who openly admits helping Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo spoke about his observations on the LP’s Vice Presidential bet during the weekly Senate Forum on Thursday, March 3, 2016.
In an article written by correspondent Maila Ager and published by Inquirer.net, Osmeña said that there is a great chance of improvement on Robredo’s winning the vice presidential post if she would she be given a free hand to run her own campaign and develop her own message.
Making mention of the reason why Robredo is finding it hard to be in the battle for vice presidential bid, Osmeña stressed: “Because the difficulty with Leni’s campaign is she’s subsumed with the campaign of Mar Roxas.”
Explaining further he said, Mar Roxas and Robredo have different messages. But the latter is also using the Straight Path, it’s not Leni’s message. So that’s her difficulty and that is the reason why it is difficult for her to make off.
The senator openly suggested an option that should be done, saying: “They should allow her to develop her own message. Give her about a month. Then, later on, we could merge the two. But the way it is going, talagang she is covered, it seemed like there is a shadow over her personality, because she has to play the role of a supporting actor to the Mar Roxas campaign.”
Meanwhile, the senator denies allegations that the ruling coalition has plans of dropping support from Robredo due to the survey’s poor standing, saying: “I think that is totally wrong. They will not dare do that.”
He talked about the consequences should LP drop their support on Robredo from the election race, “They will look very bad in the eyes of the public.”
Adding to it, he said, “Imagine, all those who are in favor of Leni will be removed from Mar Roxas’ column, kaya I don’t think he (Roxas) wants that to happen.”
He also revealed the amount of money which has been spent on Robredo’s television campaign alone which is already 75 to 85 million.
