- Holly Holm is noncommittal about possible rematch with Ronda Rousey
- She said she isn’t planning past her first title defense against Miesha Tate
- “I make the most of this fight and not look past it.” – Holm
From the moment former boxing world champion Holly Holm defeated Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 last year, she knew that a rematch between the two of them is inevitable. However, now that she will be defending her bantamweight title against Miesha Tate in the co-main event of UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz on Saturday, March 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Holm avoided questions about a potential rematch with Rousey and emphasized she isn’t planning past her first title defense.
MMA Junkie quoted her as saying: “At this point, I’m not looking past March 5. That’s as far as my mind will let me go, that’s as far as my heart and my passion will let me to go.
“You’re never promised another fight. I want to make sure I make the most of this fight and not look past it.”
In a previous interview with New York Times, Holm said even if she fights Rousey ten times, she can beat her ten times as well.
She said: “Ten. Because if I tell myself that there is one that I might not get, then I’ll be vulnerable.
I also know that I’m beatable, so I’m going to train twice as hard. She’s going to come back. She’s mad that it’s not her title anymore. I’ve got to be twice as ready as last time.
As for Rousey, she said in her appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that being defeated is a choice and she believes she’s still undefeated.
UFC President Dana White assured the fans that Rousey will fight this year.
