On May 17, the United States President, Barrack Obama spoke in a phone with Presidentelect Rodrigo Roa Duterte to congratulate his win. The White House has even released a short statement about Obama’s phone call to Duterte:

“President Obama noted that the successful election and record voter participation were emblematic of the Philippines’ vibrant democracy. The President highlighted the enduring values that underpin our thriving alliance with the Philippines and the longstanding ties between our two peoples, including our shared commitments to democracy, human rights, rule of law, and inclusive economic growth.”

And also added that the both of them have, “Affirmed their interest in seeing the relationship continue to grow on the basis of these shared principles.” As Obama complimented the Philippines for constantly observing democracy during elections and have expressed interest in sustaining a relationship with the nation for once more, the US president did not mention anything about Duterte’s administration making the country “the fastest richest growing country.”

They were actually two Facebook posts claiming that Obama described Duterte’s administration having the capability to make the Philippines “the fastes richest growing country.” In fact, if you read the contents of the articles, you’ll find it very difficult and quite confusing to understand. Although the second post is more readable, it’ll still make you hard to believe what it’s trying to convey.

What’s more, there is a video on the second article that supposedly shows Obama interviewing Duterte:

But if you look closely, it’s obvious that the video was edited and FAKE! Here is the real video where they took Obama:
