MANILA, Philippines – Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao and former Akbayan Risa Hontiveros are the two of the four newcomers who has the bigger chance of landing in the Senate’s ‘Magic Circle’; according to the latest Pulse Asia survey commissioned by the ABS-CBN Network.
The other two are former TESDA chief Joel Villanueva and former Justice Secretary Leila de Lima. Another newbie – Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian – is hanging on at 13th place.
Apparently, Pacquiao, who belongs to the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), has survived the controversy over his homophobic slur that saw his ratings go down below the winning circle. He is now in sixth place in the latest survey.
Hontiveros, who is running under the Liberal Party (LP) slate, also continues to soar after languishing in 12th-14th place at the start of the official campaign period.
Except for the five newbies, the top 12 list is still dominated by incumbent and returning senators; only switching places from time to time.
Senate President Franklin Drilon topped the latest Pulse Asia survey and has overtaken Senator Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto who dropped to second place.
The pre-election poll was conducted between April 24 and 29 among 4,000 respondents nationwide and has a national margin of error of 1.5%. The top 13 list, in particular order, include:

Presidential, VP race
In the same survey, Davao City Mayor widens his lead over rivals with 33%. He is followed by former Interior secretary Mar Roxas (22%), Senator Grace Poe (21%), Vice President Jejomar Binay (17%) and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago (2%).
For the vice presidential race, Camarines Sur Leni Robredo shoots to the top with 30%, overtaking Senator Bongbong Marcos who got 28%.
Marcos is followed in third place by Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero (18%), Senator Alan Peter Cayetano (15%), Senator Gregorio ‘Gringo’ Honasan (3%) and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV (2%).
