• Vice President Binay’s camp said that they do not see the need to be more transparent in the presidentiable’s bank accounts

  • Ex-Makati Mayor Junjun Binay said that his father’s accounts were already examined by the AMLC

  • VP Binay asked his opponents to sign a waiver that allows the AMLC to scrutinize their accounts

After receiving challenges to bare his family’s bank accounts to the general public, Vice President Jejomar Binay’s son said that he finds no need for his father to be more transparent in what they have as they have already been scrutinized by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC).

In an article written by Trisha Macas for GMA News Online on March 20, 2016, it was disclosed that the camp of the second-highest executive official in the country believe that the vice president has nothing more to expose in line with his bid for the presidency.

“Wala na, ‘di ba? Na-AMLC na ang pamilya namin at si Vice President Binay. Makikita naman na wala kaming tinatago dito, at walang makitang ebidensya na mali ang ginawa ni vice president, [There is nothing more, right? The AMLC has already checked on our family and Vice President Binay. It can be seen that we are not hiding anything and that there is no evidence that what the vice president does is wrong,” former Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay said.

Among those who asked the elder Binay to submit himself for checks for the sake of transparency are Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who are running for president and vice president, respectively.

Meanwhile, the standard bearer of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) countered his rivals by asking them to sign a general waiver that will authorize the AMLC to examine their bank accounts.

The waiver was presented to the presidential candidates who were presented during the second leg of the PiliPinas Debate 2016 held at the University of the Philippines (UP) campus in Cebu City, which include Duterte, Senator Grace Poe Llamanzares and former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
